Description
PDS™ Plus Monofilament Suture, P-2, Clear, Size 5-0, 18" is a sterile, synthetic, absorbable monofilament suture composed of polydioxanone and coated with the antibacterial agent triclosan (Irgacare® MP). It is designed to inhibit bacterial colonization on the suture surface, reducing the risk of surgical site infections in soft tissue approximation and ligation procedures.
This suture maintains approximately 60% of its original tensile strength at 2 weeks, 40% at 4 weeks, and 35% at 6 weeks, providing prolonged wound support during critical healing phases. Its monofilament structure minimizes tissue drag and inflammatory response while ensuring a smooth passage through delicate tissues.
PDS™ Plus sutures are completely absorbed by the body through hydrolysis in approximately 183 to 238 days. This extended absorption profile makes them suitable for use in tissues that require longer-term support before healing is complete, such as fascia or deeper layers of tissue.
