Description

The PDS™ Plus Monofilament Suture, Clear, 18", Size 3-0, with PC-5 needle is a sterile, synthetic, absorbable surgical suture made from polydioxanone. It is designed for soft tissue approximation where extended wound support is required, particularly in slow-healing tissues. The monofilament design reduces tissue drag and minimizes the potential for bacterial colonization along the suture line.

The PC-5 needle is a 3/8 circle taper point needle suitable for delicate soft tissue suturing. It allows smooth penetration through tissue without cutting, minimizing trauma and supporting precise placement in sensitive anatomical areas. This makes it suitable for general soft tissue use, including pediatric, gynecologic, and subcutaneous applications.

PDS™ Plus suture maintains approximately 70% of its tensile strength at two weeks and about 50% at four weeks, offering prolonged support during critical stages of tissue healing. Complete absorption occurs through hydrolysis between 182 and 238 days. The Plus formulation includes antibacterial protection with triclosan, which helps inhibit bacterial colonization on the suture.
